Student Scholarship Program

The Student Scholarship Program is funded and administered by the West Covina Lions Club. It was established by our Club to promote student participation in community service and to recognize exceptional students who show promise of continued service.

The $1000 scholarships will be awarded solely on the basis of merit. There will be five $1000 scholarships awarded. The recipient must be enrolled in and attend an institution of higher education beginning the Fall Term of the 2012-2013 academic year.

Who Can Apply

Scholarship applicants must:

  • Be a resident of the City of West Covina.
  • Graduate from a public or private secondary school between January and July 2012
  • Enroll and attend, on at least a half-time basis, the Fall Term of the 2012-2013 academic year any post-secondary institution (public or private non-profit).

How to Apply

Application information will be sent to public and private high schools serving the population of the City of West Covina.

Application Process

Each high school student wishing to submit an application for the West Covina Lions Sudent Scholarship must submit completed application materials. A complete packet includes the application and an essay of no more than 500 words in which the student describes:

  1. What I have done in the area of civic service.
  2. What I plan to do in the area of civic service.

Application Deadline

All applications, including complete materials, must be submitted postmarked or received by the Student Scholarship Chair of the West Covina Lions Club by the application deadline.

Scholarship Selection and Award Announcement

All applicants will be notified of their status in May 2012. Following a review of all applicants, top candidates will be invited for an interview by a committee of Lions members. The awardees will be invited to attend a luncheon meeting to receive recognition of the award and to address the Lions membership. All luncheon meetings are at noon on Tuesday at the West Covina Lanes.

Scholarship payments will be processed during the Fall Term of the 2012-13 academic year. Payments will be made directly to the educational institution once proof of registration has been submitted.
